Praça Dom Pedro IV, traditionally known as Rossio, is the heart of Lisbon's Baixa district and has been the city's main meeting place, center of commerce, and public life since the 13th century. It's a vibrant, historic square with distinctive architecture that makes it a must-see for any visitor.

It connects Praça dos Restauradores (Baixa) with the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara (Bairro Alto), climbing the steep Calçada da Glória.

The Santa Justa Lift, also known as the Elevador do Carmo, is a historic elevator built in the early 20th century to connect the Baixa district with Largo do Carmo. It is one of the most photographed architectural icons in the city. Built between 1900 and 1902, it was designed by the engineer Raoul Mesnier de Ponsard, considered a disciple of Eiffel.

In 1862, the Italian community of Lisbon erected this obelisk—also known as the Consórcio de D. Luís—to commemorate the marriage of King Dom Luís I to Princess Maria Pia of Savoy, celebrated on October 6, 1862. It consists of a square pedestal crowned by an obelisk-type column. At the top is a circular medallion with an inscription commemorating the royal event.

The Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara offers a superb view over Lisbon. It is located in a beautiful green area, which also has benches for resting.

From this vantage point, you can look down over the geometric hedges and lawns of Parque Eduardo VII to Avenida da Liberdade and the Tagus River. It's a great spot for a short break and a few photos before continuing your stroll through Lisbon's old town.
