In his meditation on the Stations of the Cross with the Holy Father – on Good Friday 2025 in the Roman Colosseum – Pope Francis, who died on Easter Monday of this year, invited us to let Jesus on the cross look at us: "We go our usual ways and you come towards us. Your eyes look into our hearts. (...) Jesus is your name, and truly, 'God saves' through you. The God of Abraham who calls, the God of Isaac who cares, the God of Jacob who blesses, the God of Israel who liberates: in your gaze, Lord, ... there is a whole revelation. In your footsteps going out of the city, we see our departure into a new land. You came to change the world: for us, this means changing direction, seeing the good you left behind, and allowing the memory of your gaze to continue to work in our hearts." (Pope Francis)

Caution: The old trail number 14 from the Staffelbach valley up to the juniper heath is very overgrown and disturbed by wild boars; it's best to take a wider approach.

Be careful of the elevation gain and the initial climb. These are difficult for those who aren't very fit. I recommend hiking boots, as the terrain is partly rocky, often uneven, and sometimes slippery (when going downhill). You should also pay close attention to mountain drops. The cottage doesn't always indicate the exact location (forest!). Despite the good map, I went in the wrong direction three times and ended up walking about 1 km longer. I didn't find a bench or shelter along the entire route. You can only sit down at the Steinerberghaus; otherwise, you have to keep going. I hiked with my dog, which wasn't a problem.

Only do this tour in dry weather; it's best in sunny, warm weather. The trail mostly leads through shady forests.
