The term Barbaricum, in connection with Welschneudorf, refers to the area of the present-day Westerwald region, which during Roman times lay outside the borders of the Roman Empire (the Limes) and was inhabited by Germanic tribes. The Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes, which marked the border, ran in an arc around the summit of the Weißen Stein (White Stone) in the immediate vicinity of the village.

Yes, it's useful—or, if you prefer that word, practical—to know a hiking parking lot as a starting point for your tour, or to find it when planning here in the komoot system. However, I personally imagine something nicer as a true "highlight" that would actually deserve the name...

From the Concordia Tower, the descent begins from the heights of the Lahn ridges in the Westerwald to the banks of the river. Several stops along the way, including the so-called "Mooshütte" (Moss Hut) dating from 1831, invite you to linger and enjoy the panorama of the river and the city.

If the old Baedecker has already recommended this section as a rocky path, I will of course not contradict him in komoot 😂

To use a phrase that may sound a bit trite, but which truly applies here: the river and the city lie at the hiker's feet. For example, to the right of the river, one can see the sophisticated casino and hotels, and to the left, the golden dome of the Orthodox church.

If you park here you are not far from the Kemmenau Kneipp facility.
