A nice little stopover on various very beautiful tours. The signage here is informative and sometimes funny.

The hut is open on weekends all year round. We, the Würzburger Bergbund (DAV), manage the hut on a voluntary basis. A different hut service is present every weekend. We always have something to drink, but you are welcome to bring your own snacks. The Kissinger Hütte is a refuge belonging to the Rhön Club in the Rhön. It is located at an altitude of 844 meters on the southern slope of the Heidelstein, one of the highest mountains in the Rhön. The hut was built in 1928 and is named after the spa town of Bad Kissingen, which is about 20 kilometers away. The hut offers overnight accommodation for hikers and skiers, as well as catering with regional specialties. From the hut you have a beautiful view over the Rhön and, if the visibility is good, as far as the Thuringian Forest and the Spessart.
