Originally a Celtic refuge, then the Romans arrived, and in the 12th century, a castle was built. It came into the possession of the Electorate of the Palatinate around 1300 and was then intended as a refuge for the ruler and his entourage from Heidelberg in case of emergency. The people of Dilsberger were granted town-like rights and, in return, were obliged to provide accommodations in case of emergency. With the dissolution of the Electorate of the Palatinate in 1803, the castle came into the possession of the state of Baden. In 1822, the castle was approved for demolition. The path over the Mount of Olives leads partly along the edge of the Schriesheim quarry and is steep and narrow in places and quite slightly demanding. From above you have a great view of the quarry and the Rhine plain, and when the weather is clear you can see as far as the Palatinate Forest.

The boot height is not 589, but 584.0 meters above sea level. Normal height zero (NHN) high. On the summit stone, which is probably decades old, there is still the outdated altitude information, which refers to an altitude reference system that has not been used since 1992 (sea level). The Hessian State Office for Soil Management and Geoinformation confirmed this to me on request. But then I am amazed that the difference is several meters.
