Originally a Celtic refuge, then the Romans arrived, and in the 12th century, a castle was built. It came into the possession of the Electorate of the Palatinate around 1300 and was then intended as a refuge for the ruler and his entourage from Heidelberg in case of emergency. The people of Dilsberger were granted town-like rights and, in return, were obliged to provide accommodations in case of emergency. With the dissolution of the Electorate of the Palatinate in 1803, the castle came into the possession of the state of Baden. In 1822, the castle was approved for demolition. The path over the Mount of Olives leads partly along the edge of the Schriesheim quarry and is steep and narrow in places and quite slightly demanding. From above you have a great view of the quarry and the Rhine plain, and when the weather is clear you can see as far as the Palatinate Forest.

Very nice view, especially from the wooden bench at the top near the demolition edge. Note: the way there is officially cordoned off with 2 ropes ...

The Dilsberg Castle Fortress is known for its fantastic panoramic view of the Neckar Valley and the Odenwald. Another highlight of the castle festivals is a bit lower - in the accessible underground well tunnel. Should be reopened from March 26th, 2021

A worthwhile tour of the Mount of Olives in every season. Insanely great view! Tip: Take the sunset with you, but be careful when descending or take a headlamp.
