Saalfeld train station is very bicycle-friendly, with ramps and elevators to all platforms. There is a bakery with a café, a newsstand, a ticket machine, and several vending machines selling drinks and snacks. A bicycle ticket is only required for the route to Nuremberg; otherwise, bicycle transport is free. The Eisenberg is a must for me when I hike here. The Eisenberg always looks clean and well-kept. It is also one of the few mountains with a cross.

The tower was repaired by RSB and has been open again since December 2023.

Always a worthwhile hike. It's a shame that the observation tower is still not open after almost a year.
