The Eisenberg is a must for me when I hike here. The Eisenberg always looks clean and well-kept. It is also one of the few mountains with a cross.

Always a worthwhile hike. It's a shame that the observation tower is still not open after almost a year.

Greifenstein Castle had no strategic importance after it was built, but what's left is very nice to look at. That's fine too.

It looks very nice on the Eisenberg, everything is well maintained, including the summit cross.

The castle can be hiked from Bad Blankenburg. Except for the entrance, the castle is surrounded by a rampart. It was first mentioned in 1208. Audio columns on the grounds provide information about the history. The later King Günther XXI of the House of Schwarzburg-Blankenburg was born here. The falconry is located in the outer bailey.

Welcome to Greifenstein Castle High above the town of Bad Blankenburg, the gateway to the Schwarzatal, on the local mountain covered with old beech trees, lies the town's landmark, Greifenstein Castle. At around 250 m long and around 80 m wide, the castle complex was one of the largest German feudal castles. Source: http://www.burg-greifenstein.de/ A definitely worthwhile destination. Very well maintained and well signposted.
