There is a bakery with a café, a newsstand, a ticket machine, and several vending machines selling drinks and snacks. From Saalfeld train station, there are direct connections to: *Nuremberg by RE or IC train *Blankenstein by RB train via Bad Lobenstein *Erfurt by RB train via Arnstadt *Halle by RB train *Jena by RE and RB train *Leipzig and Gera by RE and RB train all have bicycle parking spaces. A bicycle ticket is only required for the route to Nuremberg; otherwise, bicycle transport is free. The Saalfeld train station in southeast Thuringia was opened in 1871. Originally planned as a railway junction, it was destroyed by air raids in 1945. Today the station has six tracks.
