The barn district in the Schlüsselburg district of Petershagen still comprises 26 barns that are built together in a very small space. During the Thirty Years' War there were repeated lootings and fires that hit the population hard. The close proximity of the buildings quickly led to the loss of all winter supplies in the event of a fire. At the beginning of the 17th century, people began to build storage barns outside the town in a flood-protected area. Scheunenviertel are special gems of rural building culture. Due to fear of devastating fires, most of the barns were built outside villages between 1700 and 1800 and offered space for stored goods and storage.
