The barn district in the Schlüsselburg district of Petershagen still comprises 26 barns that are built together in a very small space. During the Thirty Years' War there were repeated lootings and fires that hit the population hard. The close proximity of the buildings quickly led to the loss of all winter supplies in the event of a fire. At the beginning of the 17th century, people began to build storage barns outside the town in a flood-protected area. The barns, built close together, still form the unique panorama of the barn district today.

Beautiful cycle path directly on the Weser

Earth Dutchman with sailing wings and compass rose. It was built at the time on the high western bank of the Weser in the district of Thoren (=Trum) as a replacement for a water mill that was often out of use due to a lack of water. The original facility was opened in 1927. T. converted into a motor mill that is still essentially functional today using “modern” milling machines (aspirator, trieur, peeling machine, roller mill and classifying machines) using the old grinding gears.

After the war and during the last "modernization" in 1958/59, the wings and the wind drive were dismantled or completely removed for cost reasons. Today the Valentinsmühle is a pretty windmill on the outside, but a motor mill on the inside. It can be visited from the outside at any time. You also have a great view of the Weser Valley and beyond from the mill.

It's easy to cycle here and the view is great too. So you kill two birds with one stone.😄

Beautiful cycle path with the Weser always in view

Weser cycle path is one of the most beautiful cycle paths in Germany. Great sights in many places. You can switch to the "alternative routes" if you want. Often without shade and so narrow that it is important to drive one behind the other when oncoming traffic comes.
