A beautiful path around the castle

The Path of Virtue: At the instigation of Carl Alexander of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, the "Wartburg innovator" in the second half of the 19th century, the Path of Virtue was built along the south and west sides of the outer walls. It was considered the Grand Duke's favorite path, his private domain, from which he enjoyed the magnificent view of the Thuringian forests rich in wildlife. The view sweeps over the Wartburg Forest Park, from the Inselsberg to the Hohen Meißner, from the Hohe Sonne to the Clausberg Manor House. Along the path, you stroll past the towering walls and buildings of the Wartburg. Those who do not enter the interior of the Wartburg via the stairs near the south tower can walk around the southern defensive wall and reach the medieval palace at the end. The path could not be walked as it was closed.

A well-restored and well-maintained castle ruin. Everything is secure, the tower is accessible via a staircase and there is even a toilet. The view from the tower is very beautiful.
