On the hiking trail along the Wisch River, there's a gigantic beech tree. We took a break there and enjoyed the magnificent view. 👌 Also located here are the millstone table, the Kossenhaschen crypt, and a bench with an information board.

Eisenach station is now officially known as Eisenach Hauptbahnhof (Main Station). The station's signs were replaced at the end of November 2024. The city of Eisenach initiated the renaming to more clearly emphasize the city's supra-regional importance as an ICE stop in the timetable. A beautiful train station! And why not just put your suitcase in a locker and take a four-hour break? During this time you can take a quick tour of the old town to the Wartburg. For a nice tour you are about 8 km on the way and "only" have to overcome 200 meters in altitude.

The station was built between the 18th and 19th centuries. Next to the station building is the Fürstenbahnhof. There are two glass mosaics in the spacious reception hall, one depicting the Eisenach automobile plant.

The Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, the duchies of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Saxe-Meiningen founded the Thuringian Railway Association on August 19, 1840 with the aim of planning and building a railway line Weimar-Erfurt-Gotha-Eisenach. The Thuringian Railway Company (ThEG) came into being (1844) with the financial participation of the Kingdom of Prussia. Their first construction project was the Thuringian trunk line between Halle and Gerstungen. At the same time, the railway from Eisenach to Meiningen was planned. On December 20, 1841, the “project countries” involved also concluded a state treaty for the construction of the Halle–Kassel line. In the years 1846-1847 the first Eisenach station was built on the ground floor. Its first reception building probably came from Julius Eugen Ruhl.[3] The inauguration was on June 24, 1847 as the provisional terminus of the Gotha–Fröttstädt–Eisenach section. The western continuation of the trunk line was opened a good two years later, on August 18, 1849, with the section to today's district of Hörschel for excursion traffic. After further construction, now following the Werra, the gap was closed in Gerstungen on September 25, 1849 with the Hessian Friedrich-Wilhelms-Nordbahn. From 1856, with the construction of the Werra Railway, which opened on November 2, 1858, Eisenach developed into a railway junction. The Thuringian railway between Eisenach and Apolda had already been expanded to double track.
