"The Berlin Wall is coming to Rasdorf – a rare original piece has been secured from the Berlin Senate," reported Martin Hohmann (CDU), a member of the Bundestag from East Hesse, today. The legendary "anti-fascist protective barrier" of the inhumane SED dictatorship was largely "crumbled" by so-called "wallpeckers" after 1989. In Berlin, apart from two centrally located sections of the wall declared historical monuments, only a few elements remained. These are being kept under lock and key by the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development as a precautionary measure. Hohmann successfully appealed to the Federal Government and the Berlin Senate to obtain a segment of the wall for the large exhibition and information complex currently being built on the Thuringian side of the "Point Alpha" memorial, remembrance, and meeting place.
