The current Terzi Castle has very ancient origins, dating back to the Early Middle Ages. It was originally a fortified Benedictine monastery, destroyed by Charlemagne's Frankish army in the 8th century. Rebuilt as a castle in the 9th/10th century, it belonged to the Mozzo family and then to the Suardo family, who extended their dominion over the entire valley, also owners of the Bianzano Castle. In the 15th century, following the imposition by the Venetian Republic of the demolition of every stronghold present in the territory of the Serenissima, the Suardo family, in order to avoid its destruction, made it a stately home. Finally, the property passed to the Terzi family, who sold it in 1930, by then completely abandoned and in ruins, to the British countess Winifred Terni de Gregory. From 1937 to 1945, she renovated the property as it appears today, including the gardens. Currently the entire complex is temporarily rented for important events or weddings.

One of the oldest castles found on the ancient communication route that flanks the Oglio river. The construction of the Trebecco castle probably began in the 10th century. Its structure has remained substantially unchanged over the centuries, an extraordinary example of a fortified medieval village, the only entrance is a tower. The numerous changes of ownership over the course of its history have significantly contributed to its decay and that of the village, but, thanks to a recent restoration, it now makes it truly impressive.

The remains of the ancient tower that stands on the top of Colle San Geminiano, is what still exists today of the ancient Castle (or "Castrum") of the Ghisalbertini De Martinengo Counts, who bought it in 1045, becoming the lords of Mezzate ( today Bagnatica). Originally the tower was inserted in a much more complex fortified structure, surrounded by defensive walls, inside which other buildings were built, including the church dedicated to San Geminiano (no longer existing) and a well, whose remains are still visible. This castle, like many other fortifications in the area, had a defensive function of the plain, thanks to the excellent view from the top of the hill. The De Martinengo counts enjoyed a position of power for a long time from the time of the purchase of the Castrum, but the fights between families that took place in the 13th century caused them to fall into ruin, losing all power over the territory.

During the first century BC the Roman intervention gave the Bagnatica area a definitive structure, with the works of agricultural subdivision and water regulation. In this period, the road layouts were defined, such as the foothill one, while in the area located between the two rivers Oglio and Cherio centers of significant importance such as Cicola, Telgate and Carobbio degli Angeli were established. The remains of Domus, villas, necropolis and stretches of roads testify the presence of the Romans everywhere. Of particular interest, for a historical reinterpretation of the territory, the wall structures referring to the Belvedere area and the ruins of Colle Alto.

Climbed to the summit of Colle Alto 332 m a.s.l. also known as San Geminiano, at the top you can see the remains of a tower "la Bastia" of the Castle of the Ghisalbertini "De Martinengo" Counts. In addition to a beautiful view of the plain, hidden by the vegetation, you can see a structure with huge boulders and a cistern for collecting water. You can also see the remains of the walls of the "castrum" at the base of the imposing tower (20 meters, four floors) of the De Martinengo castle (deed of sale of 1045 by Ambrose, bishop of Bergamo). There are also remains of other more or less visible buildings where the church of S. Giminiano, the Palatium and the well stood. After a recent deforestation work, the tower can be seen comfortably even at a distance of several kilometers.

The interiors are all frescoed and well preserved, in particular we remember the arms room which has a pavilion vault and the frescoed walls with mythological motifs, made in the eighteenth century by an unknown artist.

The castle is a vast complex made up of buildings, built in different eras (from the 12th to the 17th century), the northern part is the oldest and maintains, even after a 19th-century restoration, the typical character of medieval manors. Beyond this first nucleus, various buildings extend towards the underlying village, transformed into an attractive country residence, in which an elegant 16th century loggia opens up. The arrangement of a magnificent Italian garden, which still exists today, dates back to the 15th century.

The town of Costa di Mezzate is dominated by the Camozzi Vertova Castle which, although rising halfway up the Colle Alto called Colle San Geminiano, constitutes the most prominent element of the town. It was erected by Emperor Otto I (962) but after the final defeat of Barbarossa in the battle of Legnano (1176), the properties were assigned by the Municipality of Bergamo, to the most faithful families of the captains, the Albertoni de Vertua (Vertova), the Rogerio de Scalve and the noble Del Zoppo family of Bergamo. Around 1160 Albertus Albertoni de Vertua defended Bergamo in the war against the Barbarossa (league of Pontida) on the site of the ancient fortress. Alberto de Vertua, who also participated in the peace of Constance (1183), was awarded, and with him the descendants, the domain of the castle, becoming the progenitor of the Vertova Counts, then Camozzi Vertova, who inherited the property. In the period of the Lordships, the castle fulfilled its role of defense of the places and the inhabitants and found itself at the center of military events during the wars between Milan and Venice. After the peace of Lodi (1454), the castle lost its military function and became a Renaissance residence.

Etymological curiosity: according to popular history it seems that the name attributed to the village was born in about the thirteenth century, when the fortress of the town was the home of a rich lord who forced his subjects to exhausting jobs, paying them only a very small part of the product. It seems that one night the population rose up against these prevarications and put the fortress to fire and sword, kidnapping its inhabitant. The squire was taken to the square and burned at the stake, with the euphoric population yelling at him "brüsa porco", which in the Bergamo dialect literally means "burn pig". To date, there is no documented evidence of either the existence of the revolt or even less of the tragic end of the Signorotto.

It is believed that centuries ago, in the place where the castle now stands, there was a monastery of the Benedictine monks. According to some historians, the monastery was destroyed during the wars between Charlemagne, king of the Franks, and Desiderio, the last Lombard king, and was never rebuilt. The castle of Monasterolo, together with Bianzano and Mologno, was part of a medieval defensive system, even if it probably stood on the ruins of a previous fortification. However, the first reliable news of its existence dates back to 990. In the second half of the 13th century the castle belonged to the powerful Ghibelline Suardi family who made it only for military use. In the 16th century, with the updating to the new Renaissance style, the building was used as a residence and therefore refined. Towards the end of 1700 the castle lost its importance as a fortress-residence and rapidly declined. The building, transformed into a rustic house, became a ruined ruin in the best possible way and fell into oblivion. Only in the years 1937-1939 was the fortress completely renovated by a new owner: Countess Winifred Terni de 'Gregorj Taylor. Currently the castle of Monasterolo would be owned by the heirs of the countess Ginevra Terni. Intended use: location for weddings and receptions.
