This is a very interesting gravel segment in the park.

A nice bridge with an impressive view of the canal. The cycling roads are separate from the normal roads, making it a safe place to cross the canal without a hassle.

A nice gravel path running on a narrow strip of land between the old (1850s) and the new (1960s) Saimaa Canal (plus a bit of regular gravel road connecting towards Nuijamaa), pretty easy gravel (also rideable on a road bike) with a little bit of washboarding in a few spots, there is a little manually operated ferry to get you across the old canal where the two rejoin, max 2 people plus bikes at a time. The gravel path/service road continues to the northwest along the new canal all the way to the Mustola lock but it is pretty boring (especially with no ships) and there are several better options available.

Nice route to ride next to the road.

okay bike path running right next to the road, continues a bit further north beyond this segment, occasional lakeside views, and the local industry does not smell as bad as did in the 1980s :D for what it’s worth, the alternative route via Salosaari (Kaljaniementie/Patotie) is nice as well...

Very imposing old wooden church. Seems to have been built extra large so that you can already see it from accross the bay.

Mostly forested stretch with glimpses of the lake nearby
