The Atlantic Wall Open-Air Museum Raversyde is a museum that offers visitors a tour of the bunker systems used by the German army to secure the Flanders coast during the First and Second World Wars, and demonstrates the duties and equipment of the coastal battery crews.

Westfront Nieuwpoort is an impressive visitor centre that tells the story of the strategic flooding of the IJzervlakte during the First World War. Situated under the imposing King Albert I monument at the De Ganzepoot lock complex, the centre brings the history of Nieuwpoort to life with interactive exhibitions, authentic objects and an immersive 180° projection of the IJzer panorama.

Beautiful cycle path straight along the coast

The King Albert I Monument in Nieuwpoort was erected in 1938 in honour of King Albert I and the Belgian troops during the First World War. The monument, designed by Julien de Ridder, is circular with a diameter of 30 metres and consists of twenty columns made of brick from the IJzer valley. In the centre is an equestrian statue of King Albert I, made by sculptor Karel Aubroeck. On top of the ring beam is a walkway with orientation tables that offer a beautiful view over the IJzer plain. Below the monument is the interactive visitor centre Westfront Nieuwpoort, which tells the story of the flooding of the polder plain in 1914.
