비텐베르크의 새로운 B189 다리는 A14 고속도로 확장 공사의 일부이며, 북쪽에 인접한 낡은 구 다리(1978년 건설, 가장 긴 구 동독 도로 다리)입니다. 2026년 중반부터 교통을 수용할 신축 다리는 엘베 강 횡단 시설을 현대화하고 오래된 구조물을 교체하기 위한 대규모 인프라 프로젝트의 일부로 건설됩니다.

As you travel along the Elbe dike, you will have a wonderful view of the Elbe valley meadows and the course of the Elbe River.

Normally, this Elbe crossing should be avoided by bike. Currently, however, there's almost no alternative. My breathtaking experience was that ALL trucks on the federal highway maintained a considerable distance or waited. Crossing the railway bridge is expected to be possible again from fall 2025.

The name of the "highlight" doesn't really fit here. Schnackenburg and Pevestorf are located on opposite sides of the Elbe. However, the section where the highlight is marked is located between Lütkenwisch and the Lenzener Schutzhafen.

The Hafenspeicher (harbor warehouses) in Wittenberge are striking historic buildings at the Elbe harbor and a testament to the city's industrial past. The warehouses were built in two phases. The first, smaller warehouse was constructed in 1910, while two larger warehouse buildings were added between 1938 and 1939. In recent years, extensive development projects have been initiated around the Hafenspeicher (harbor warehouses) to revitalize the area and make it usable for both residential and commercial purposes.

Currently life-threatening for cyclists, as there is a major construction site without a dedicated cycle path (October 2024). The alternative route over the railway bridge is also closed. However, there is no other way to use this dangerous route within 20 km. So you have to expose yourself to the danger here. If possible, take this problem into account when planning your tour.
