A wooden lookout tower was first opened on the Hohe Egge in 1882 – the Augusta Tower. The renovated restaurant was inaugurated in 1988. In the same year, the tower and restaurant became the responsibility of the town of Bad Münder. The tower was last renovated in 2010. In 2012, the ascent to the tower was blocked due to the risk of the stairs collapsing. The refurbishment of the staircase was completed in July 2012.
