Since the first palace and park complexes were built at the beginning of the 18th century, Ettersburg was a popular hunting and summer residence for the ducal family of Saxony-Weimar and Eisenach. Anna Amalia gathered a literary and artistic circle around her here. The extensive landscape park with its gardens and the "Pückler-Schlag" is a gem of garden art.

East of Stotternheim stands the Luther Stone. On July 2, 1505, Martin Luther was walking back to Erfurt from his parents' home in Mansfeld when he was caught in such a violent thunderstorm near Stotternheim that he feared for his life. Completely overwhelmed and terrified, he is said to have cried out: "Help me, St. Anne, I will become a monk!" Today, this spot near Lake Stotternheim is considered the turning point of the Reformation. Just 15 days after this event, on July 17, 1505, Martin Luther entered the Augustinian monastery in Erfurt. A year later, he took his monastic vows. In 1917, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Reformation, a citizen of Erfurt donated a memorial stone made of Swedish granite, which was erected at the location, according to historical accounts, most likely where the lightning struck, and is situated in a small park. 🦊

Here, photos of two beautiful Unstrut bridges are shown in a highlight. The title picture belongs to the second in the city park at the church. The other, longer bridge is in the city park at the end of the canoeists' whitewater canal. The comments sometimes refer to one bridge, sometimes to the other. The cycle path goes past the longer bridge, sharp right turn, the cycle path goes over the small bridge by the church. Both beautiful!
