Whether you're admiring the cathedral or the old railway bridge, the Elbe Cycle Path in Magdeburg is fantastic! It's very easy to cycle on and offers plenty to see. However, leaving the cycle path here is definitely recommended to explore more of the city – for example, the Hundertwasser House, 'The Green Citadel'.

Maurizio Nannucci's light artwork can be admired at dusk or at night. Near the cathedral, I was greeted by the glowing blue lettering "From so far to here." On the other side, in red, "Even much further from here" is written.

Check the map carefully beforehand. The bike path signage is slightly misleading. Cycle at your own risk (signs apply), but it's completely easy once you've found your way. Barriers are easy to bypass.
