The Water Gate in Isny is a historic city gate, first mentioned in 1337 and part of the city wall. It served not only as a watchtower but also as a prison, where many prisoners could remain for over 500 years.

Coming from Neppen, you drive fairly flat past the marshland towards Hengelesweiher. The lush green of the marshland is a true feast for the eyes. Only shortly before the pond does the road climb slightly, offering a beautiful view of the water.

The building is very beautiful, but only has limited opening hours. Inside, you feel like you've been transported back several years.

Here in Isny, large sections of the city wall are still preserved and can be walked through without a guide. It's well worth the effort.
