A beautiful market square with great buildings

The history of the small town of Ankum goes back a long way. It was first mentioned in a document in 977, then under the name Ainghem. Mainly cloth was traded locally, as well as livestock to this day. The Artland Cathedral towers proudly in the historic town center. Right next door you will find cozy cafés and restaurants that invite you to linger.

When the wings of the Schweger Mill turn in the wind on Sundays, it is always a fascinating spectacle for visitors, especially children. Today the Schweger Mühle is the only mill in the Vechta district that can once again use wind power to grind. It presents itself with its outbuildings Backhaus and Göpelhaus in a charming environment. The grain garden as well as half-timbered settlements and Bussjan's Hofcafé are nearby.

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas, popularly known as Artländer Cathedral, is the landmark of Ankum, an old market town where cloth was once traded. The church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, is located on the Vogelberg, high above the market arches.
