A beautiful market square with great buildings

The city was once accessible via five city gates (gates), the High Gate formed the northern exit of the city. The lower floor contains no rooms, but an open passage. The archways were originally Romanesque basket arches, but were replaced by taller Gothic pointed arches in the mid-19th century due to the increasing size of trucks and vans. The first floor used to be divided into two rooms by a wooden wall; The area, equipped with wooden benches and chains for tying up prisoners, was called the "scrubbing box" and was used to hold females who had been convicted of minor offenses as quarrelsome women; the other half was the dreaded city prison "Up de porten".

The Kolsterburg Dinklage is the oldest moated castle in Northern Germany.

When the wings of the Schweger Mill turn in the wind on Sundays, it is always a fascinating spectacle for visitors, especially children. Today the Schweger Mühle is the only mill in the Vechta district that can once again use wind power to grind. It presents itself with its outbuildings Backhaus and Göpelhaus in a charming environment. The grain garden as well as half-timbered settlements and Bussjan's Hofcafé are nearby.
