The old half-timbered house on Poststraße was inaugurated in 1825. Soltau had about 1,000 inhabitants at the time (today it has about 22,000 inhabitants). There was a restaurant on the ground floor. In 1851, the district court and prison moved into the town hall. One of the first full-time mayors was the well-known heath poet Friedrich Freudenthal. Above the window in the small gable of the town hall is the old town coat of arms from 1388.
