At the foot of the Salzgitter ridge from Lichtenberg lies the grounds of the castle and domain of Gebhardshagen in the lowlands. It was built over many centuries, starting around 1200 AD. Until the 19th century, the castle and domain were surrounded by a moat. After the Reichswerke “Hermann Göring” was founded in the Ratskeller in Salzgitter in July 1937, it was agreed on July 2, 1938 that the Reichswerke-Umsiedlungs-Gesellschaft mbH should buy the domain, the purchase price was 1,228,000 RM. In July 1941, the “Aktiengesellschaft für Berg- und Hüttenbetriebe Hermann Göring” took a large part of its lands for industry and housing from Gut Gebhardshagen.
