The monument erected in honor of Cyril and Methodius underscores the Sorbs' connection with other Slavic peoples. A monument was erected near the historic Via Regia in honor of Cyril and Methodius. In the mid-19th century, Pastor Michał Hórnik and his like-minded friends founded the Cyril-Methodius Society. Although it has now been proven that the Sorbs were evangelized by the Diocese of Meissen, the Sorbs continue to venerate Cyril and Methodius. In 2000, the society erected the Millennium Monument at its present location.
