Johann-Friedrich-Danneil-Museum; founded in 1836, since 1932 based in the former provost's office in Salzwedel; named after the prehistorian and high school professor Johann Friedrich Danneil (1783-1868), it was one of the first association museums in Germany; starting with numerous prehistoric and early historical exhibits from the Altmark, the collection now also includes exhibits from the Middle Ages and later centuries and continues to focus primarily on the (local) history of the Altmark;

The Jeetze is a typical lowland river in the landscape of the "Western Altmark Plateau" with sandy-gravelly to sandy-mudgy bed substrates, which in many places is accompanied by one-sided riparian woodland, reed beds and moist perennial meadows. Grasslands dominate in the surrounding areas. Within the villages, the stream is regularly built up and anthropogenically over-shaped. Founded in 1932, the Johann Friedrich Danneil Museum is an important historical collection and research center in the western Altmark, emerging from the collections of the Altmark Historical Society founded in 1836. The thematic focus of the historical society was also reflected in the collection's main focuses at the time: prehistory and early history, sacred sculpture, guild crafts, seals, coins and weapons. This historical core collection has been continuously expanded and expanded to include other collection groups in the following period.
