The water tower in Salzwedel was built in 1903 by master builder Albert Strauchenbruch in the neo-Gothic style and served the city's water supply until 1981. With a height of 43.7 meters and a 25-meter-high reservoir that could hold up to 35 cubic meters of water, it replaced the previously used wooden pipeline system. Today, the tower is considered a prominent landmark of the city. The surrounding area is primarily used as a parking lot and is located in the immediate vicinity of the Neuperver Gate.

The museum, founded in 1911, is one of the oldest museum villages in Germany. A visit to the museum with over 25 residential and commercial buildings is extremely worthwhile and highly recommended.
