If you look at the earlier Komoot images (2024), you can hardly recognize the area around the hut. Almost all the trees around it have been cut down. The hut is as good as ever and is also suitable as a place to stay overnight, protected from rain and snow.

The sign for the Rennsteig is of course impossible to miss... The Steinheider Hut also offers the opportunity to rest and is an attractive starting point for hikes... towards the reservoir, the beautiful view of the forest disappears here too - more and more 😔
