The building was previously used to overwinter cold-sensitive citrus fruits. Hence the name Orangery. In 2013, the historical remains of the orangery were covered with a 30 meter long Corten steel wall, which is intended to preserve the ruins and protect them from further deterioration.

Through the natural monument Elendsklamm and the beginning of the Sickinger Höhe with the pigeon head on the German premium hiking trail. Impressive gorge with a “primeval forest”, which is a unique habitat for rare animal and plant species. The path along the gorge is well developed and secured with railings, bridges and steps. When inspecting in late autumn and winter, make sure that you have weather-appropriate equipment. In midsummer the gorge offers a welcome cool hiking trail.

It was a wooden structure that was used exclusively for the events in connection with the wedding and was then removed again. Since the bride's father, Landgrave Ludwig IX. von Hessen-Darmstadt had taken a great interest in this layout, he had Mannlich send him plan copies. Namely, he intended to construct the building in stone as a permanent facility. Mannlich sent the copies he had signed to Darmstadt, where they are still to this day. However, they were no longer used in Darmstadt.
