One of the largest heathland areas in southern Germany. During the flowering period in August and September, it is advisable not to come on the weekend as it is very crowded. If you want, you can extend the heather tour a little and make a loop in the adjacent forest, where it is very calm and cool and a nice contrast to the sunny, dry heather.

The silent landmark of the city of Kaiserslautern. A hike up the mountain and climbing the tower is always worth it. From the top you have a wonderful view over the Palatinate Forest and the northern Palatinate region.

The Drachenfels is a popular hiking destination that can be easily reached from the south (Lambrecht, Neidenfelds) or from the north (Saupferch). The summit area comprises a chain of rocks with an area of 13 hectares, designated as a nature reserve. A distant view to the south is possible at two points (Westfels and Südfels).

You can walk around the lake completely. Both on foot and by bike!

At the end of July and beginning of August the heather cools down, when there is fog in the morning and you are on the plain before sunrise, you can take really great photos .....

Beautiful lake in the forest, with ice cold water, as the name suggests. You can swim here in summer, but your four-legged friends are only allowed in certain months (nature and bird sanctuary). There is also a great fish farm and gastronomy. Some circular hiking trails start from there.

Be there before sunrise in the morning when it's foggy, because the best spots are quickly taken... Interesting for those who want to take a few photos
