The plaque is embedded in the rock in the Karlstall Gorge near Trippstadt.

Strictly speaking, the “Old Castle” in Rodalben is not a real castle. Rather, the rock massif made of red sandstone is a prehistoric refuge, which was naturally protected by rocks and a rampart.

In 1985/1986 the entire castle was extensively renovated. In the course of this, the road at the back of the castle was also set up.

It is a very beautiful and easy to walk tour. It is also suitable for children. (But be careful! There are a lot of small bridges and footbridges over the creek!) Appropriate footwear is recommended. On August 9, 1862, the Bavarian King, who was enthusiastic about the Palatinate, walked through the Karlstal near Trippstadt together with His Royal Highness, Grand Duke Ludwig III. of Hesse and near the Rhine, and Her Imperial Highness Archduchess Hildegard of Austria. This is confirmed by a cast-iron commemorative plaque embedded in one of the large, green, moss-covered sandstone blocks that lie around in the ravine through which the Moosalb rippled like giant forgotten toys.
