The Kyrill Trail has ten stations that provide information about the damage caused by the storm Kyrill in the Hunsrück Forest in 2007, as well as about the work of foresters and the natural regeneration of the forest. The Kyrill Trail leads visitors across planks and small ladders through the windthrow area.

This old, Roman field path was once a long-distance path - the Ausoniusweg. A Roman road runs in a straight line north of Dill towards Kirchberg, the ancient Dumnissus. The Roman poet and scholar Ausonius wrote down his travel impressions on the way to Trier during the 4th century AD.

The Diller Castle Path is a very nice, gentle circular route. The Elfenpfad also makes it attractive for children and the young at heart. Dill is a sleepy pretty place. It's worth it.

Great trail, laid out with a lot of effort and care. Our children could hardly be stopped and are enthusiastically galloping over the footbridges and bridges. But: not suitable for prams, really zero, far too many stairs.

Kyrill path Kastellaun Dear forest visitors, the city of Kastellaun and Landesforsten Rheinland-Pfalz invite you to explore a forest area that was destroyed by the storm. Walk safely on the windthrow area - as the foresters call it - on an 800 meter long path. Get a close-up picture of the damage caused by the storm and learn more about the naturally emerging forest and the work of foresters. The approximately 1.5 hectare windthrow area was created on January 18, 2007 by storm Kyrill. The trees were only 58 years old. Usually the fallen trees are delimbed, the logs are driven out of the forest and sold to sawmills. Here, however, the city and the Kastellaun forestry office have made the decision to leave the area to nature and have created an exciting object for you to see. A total of two million cubic meters of wood (mainly spruce) fell victim to this storm in Rhineland-Palatinate alone. Part of it has to be preserved in so-called wet storage areas over the long term. It can only be sold when the sawmills need it again. In Rhineland-Palatinate alone, eleven people lost their lives as a result of direct storm effects. The financial damage amounts to 50 million euros. This sum does not include the future economic loss due to the early harvest of the fallen trees. Source: Text information board

8월 16, 2021, Balduinseck Castle Ruin
Quelle: Text Achim Wendt, BDK Heidelberg

The Schinderhannes cycle path in the Hunsrück is 38 km long and runs as a rail route over the former Hunsrück Railway from Simmern via Kastellaun to Emmelshausen. The path is named after the German robber Johannes Bückler, also known as Schinderhannes, whose raids mainly took place in the Hunsrück.

The Burgstadtpfad dream loop is fun. Family-friendly, it is pleasant to walk and offers many little highlights that deserve its name. The Kyrillpfad is one of them. I also find the prescribed direction of travel very contemporary and completely correct.

When hurricane "Kyrill" swept through Germany in January 2007, trees were uprooted and bent like matches. In order to make this natural event tangible in an educational way, the city of Kastellaun and the Rhineland-Palatinate Forestry Department invite young and old visitors to the forest to safely walk a 1.5-hectare spruce storm thrown area. In the middle of the city forest you can experience on your way along the wooden, 830m long "Kyrill-Path" how nature regenerates, flora and fauna adapt and change - and dead wood creates new life. The path is freely accessible all year round (not accessible when there is ice and snow)
