This is one of the more than 100 existing "Saar-Hunsrück dream loops" that make the large area south of the Moselle very attractive as a hiking destination. In the brochure it is described with the words "With magnificent views, the hiking trail leads from the Hunsrück plateau ... into the deep Ehrbach valley. In complete isolation, the path runs along a narrow path along the stream. There are steep ascents and descents with ... surprising views." The dream loop is 8.5 kilometers long, 390 meters in altitude and is described as taking 3 to 4 hours to walk.

Great vantage point: Very nicely situated rest area that invites us to take a breather here. After the strenuous climb out of the gorge, we are rewarded with a magnificent view of Schöneck Castle.

The term via ferrata is heavily exaggerated. There are well-developed climbing aids in rocky terrain that offer safety on damp ground.

A varied hike along the Ehrbach through a gorge. Return after a steep and interesting ascent along great viewpoints. Recommendable. Surefootedness required.

Schöneck Castle Around the year 1200 the Reichsministeriale Konrad von Boppard built the castle "Sconecke" on behalf of the German king to protect the fiscal district of Boppard. As a result of the Eltz feud, Schöneck Castle became dependent on the Electorate of Trier. While it was part of the French Republic, Schöneck Castle, as it has been known since the 17th century, was confiscated from the diocese's property and auctioned off. In 1910 the painter Wilhelm Steinhausen acquired Schöneck Castle, which has been owned by the Steinhausen Foundation since 1922. http://schloss-schoeneck.de/geschichte/

The Ehrbachklamm was opened up in 1921 by the pharmacist Georg Francke from Boppard (1860 to 1926). In 1991, a commemorative plaque was placed in the Ehrbachklamm to mark the 70th anniversary of its existence.

Nice dream loop with individual short climbing passages. Wire ropes are available to help where you have to "climb" a bit. Not a via ferrata in the sense that you need via ferrata equipment!
