A beautiful baroque moated castle with lovely gardens directly on the Regnitz River. It has been used as the international artists' residence "Villa Concordia" for over 25 years.

Together with the cathedral and the new residence in Bamberg, the old court forms a historically grown square ensemble of European importance in the heart of the world heritage city of Bamberg. Emperor Henry II made Bamberg a bishopric in 1007. The old court was the bishops' first residence. The half-timbered buildings that have survived to the rear were built from 1475, and from 1568 the council chamber building and the beautiful gate were added to the cathedral square. Seehof Castle is always worth a visit

The old court is the former imperial and bishop's palace and impresses with its half-timbered and Renaissance buildings. The courtyard with these buildings exudes a great atmosphere.

A Babenberg fort, the Castrum Babenberg, used to stand here on Bamberg's Domberg. In 1003 it became the Palatinate of the Duke of Bavaria and later Roman-German Emperor Heinrich II. After the founding of the Diocese of Bamberg, it became the residence of the Bamberg bishops in 1007. After the buildings on Domberg were completed, the old court, which at its core still contains the remains of the palace and the chapel from the 11th century, stood between the cathedral in the south and the new residence in the north. After the prince-bishop moved to a new palace, the buildings were used as an office, library and council chamber. Today the city's historical museum is housed there and the cathedral building hut is housed in the Henneberg wing. In the summer, the Calderon Festival takes place in the courtyard. The International House of Artists Villa Concordia has been in existence for 25 years. The founding took place on October 20, 1997. The artists' and scholarship holders' house, which is operated on behalf of the Free State of Bavaria, offers artists of the fine arts, literature and music the opportunity to work on their own projects without obligations within the framework of a residence and living allowance and to present them to the public at events. The scholarship holders are selected by a board of trustees. Self-application is not possible. The grants do not serve to promote young talent, but give established artists time and space to realize projects.
