The Fichtelseemoor (actually Torf- und Seelohe) in the Fichtel Mountains north of Lake Fichtel is one of the very few rain-fed raised bogs in northern Bavaria. It lies in a depression between the Ochsenkopf and Platte mountains at 752 meters above sea level. A special feature here is the bog spircus forest (extremely rare in northern Bavaria) adjacent to the raised bog vegetation. The eleven-hectare Fichtelsee was dammed starting in 1650 to provide additional hydropower for driving the hammers (mining in the Fichtel Mountains).

Pure nature.

Bayreuth's most magnificent fountain is undoubtedly the Margrave Fountain in front of the New Palace, featuring the equestrian statue of Margrave Christian Ernst. It was created between 1699 and 1705 by Bayreuth's court sculptor Elias Räntz. The Margrave, who had clearly stipulated that "nothing at all should be undertaken without the prior knowledge of the Prince," provided the materials and tools to ensure that this masterpiece, made of fine-grained sculptural sandstone (from Hartmannsreuth and Lessau), would become a success to his credit. The fountain was inaugurated on July 27, 1700—on the occasion of His Most Serene Highness's 56th birthday—and initially stood in the inner courtyard of the Old Residence. It was completed (according to the chronogram in the inscription on the base) in 1705.

There was certainly a beautiful fountain in front of the castle, but it was enclosed over the winter so that it could not be seen. This applies to almost all statues and fountains in Bayreuth.

The path and two footbridges lead over the raised moor, which is easy to walk around. A fantastic view and landscape with benches to rest on.
