It's amazing what nature has come up with here. A must-see if you're in the area 👍. It's pure adventure for the kids. At the beginning and end, the kids can play in the shallow water and come up with new ideas with the sand and fine gravel 😉.

Been here again for a long time, fantastically beautiful. Today the mossy stones were covered in leaves. A feast for the eyes. 🪨🍁👍

On the west side from the log cabin to the south runs the bank path, which is very rustic and natural. The Goldsteig, a popular long-distance hiking trail, runs from Falkenstein to the Blockhütte on the east side and from the hut on the west side. The surrounding paths are great for walking around.

The table stone is really impressive. Crossing the Naab is easily possible here due to the many boulders in the water. The bank path leads past the rocks, which is why you can look at the table stone from there. Small plants and moss grow on the table.

The Doost nature reserve has become a worthwhile destination for - not just geological - excursions, the fauna and flora can also inspire here. The "Doost" was placed under protection very early on, on October 14, 1937 - making it the oldest nature reserve in the Upper Palatinate.

Round granite blocks lie impressively on top of and next to each other in the Doost. The water of the Girnitzbach rushes beneath them. Popular belief interprets them as the work of giants, and the devil is also brought into play in the legends. In fact, the Doost goes back to a long geological process that began millions of years ago.

There are many legends surrounding the beautiful Doost nature reserve. You can read them on metal plaques attached directly to the stones. The devil is said to have churned on this stone.

In 1347, Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian had Schellenberg Castle, which was then called "Lug ins Land", built to protect against attacks from Bohemia. On July 12, 1498, the castle was stormed under the leadership of Captain Konrad von Wirsberg, who was in the service of the Margrave of Brandenburg. The castle was partially destroyed. Their owner, Knight Moritz von Guttenberg, was captured. The castle was never rebuilt.

As if by a giant hand, granite blocks are piled on top of each other, which are actually reminiscent of stacked loaves of bread. A silver cross can be seen on top of the rock.

Took a cool bath today. Out of the cycling shorts and into the swimming trunks. 😜 The ice cream man stopped by too 😋

The somewhat hidden Doost nature reserve was placed under protection as early as 1937, making it the oldest protected area in the Upper Palatinate. The word "Doost" is probably derived from the word "tosen" of the Girnitz, the numerous moss-covered granite balls and Pressack granite blocks were washed round by the water and are stacked on top of and next to each other over a length of around 500 meters. Many legends and myths are entwined around this area, the stories can be read on some well-made bronze plaques. The Doost is definitely worth a visit and is second to none!

The Waldnaabtal Nature Reserve has a wow factor for me. The mighty rock formations simply leave you in awe, and the paths are well-secured, partly with wooden walkways and metal stairs. There's a very popular log cabin restaurant here with regional cuisine and a beer garden. Since there's a hiking parking lot nearby, it's a good starting point for many hikes.

Sturdy shoes and sure-footedness are essential on the shore path. On the other side you can easily walk on a forest road, but also close to the river.
