I think the source is beautifully prepared and does credit to the Main. Compared to other river sources, such as the Lahn, one source can be clearly seen here. No one can say exactly which rivulets that flow together somewhere eventually form the Main. Thank God it was set that way in the past and that's a good thing.

Very impressive rock but because of the bird breeding season from 02/01 to 06/30. closed, diversion is well signposted.

The Großer Lochstein in the Veldensteiner Forst is a striking rock tower made of Franconian dolomite, which was formed by weathering under tropical climatic conditions more than 100 million years ago. This document of a Lower Cretaceous karst landscape has been preserved by younger sand deposits. Only the removal of these layers in the recent geological past brought it back to light. (net find)
