The term "stone cross monument" chosen by the author of this highlight is somewhat misleading. While the small sacred monument found here has a stone column as its base, the cross rising above it is made of a different material: it was evidently created using the traditional craftsmanship of cast iron. The well-preserved cross with the body of the crucified Christ—a crucifix, in other words—is typical of the style of the period. It bears a plaque with an inscription below the longitudinal beam, and two further figures are located below it. According to ancient tradition and in accordance with the biblical accounts of Jesus' execution on the cross, these are the Virgin Mary and John, who is described as Jesus' favorite disciple and to whom the dying man entrusted the care of his mother.
