Effeltrich has the best preserved fortified church in Upper Franconia. In the immediate vicinity of the church is the mighty dancing linden tree with its sweeping canopy of leaves. Today's renaissance building is the successor to an older system that dates back to the Middle Ages. Crailsheim had it restored in 1902. The outer bailey was destroyed by arson in the same year. A forester's house was built in their place.

Well worth a visit in any case. Well maintained. With over 300 years of history. Rebuilt in its current form from 1705 after being destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. In 1961 the castle was bought by the city of Erlangen and extensively renovated. It was sold privately in 2004 to save money, but with the condition that it be opened to the public. The new owner completely renovated the castle and the complex by 2013.
