Beautiful open-air stage and a beer garden, fits on the castle hill

Approaching the ruins from Fleschützen, it was quite unsatisfying. Access to the inner castle is blocked, and the surrounding walls are overgrown. It's impossible to get a clear view. The ruins are apparently neglected and have been left to their natural state. The sign also suggests this. A shame.

It is beautifully quiet on the Burghalde, which is so important for the history of the twin town of Kempten. The Allgäu Castle Museum is located here.

The trails are sometimes very adventurous, but in a very beautiful area. It is safer to bike in dry weather. Unfortunately, a lot of trees block the trail, so you have to lift the bike more than you can ride.

The ruins of the Wolkenberg stand on a hill with a very steep incline. Is very interesting and the masonry is protected by subsequently built over roofs. There is also seating to linger.

Allgäu Castle Museum The Allgäu Castle Museum is located in the keeper's house of the former fortress on the Burghalde in Kempten, a legendary hilltop in the southern part of Kempten city center. The Allgäu Castle Association opened an exhibition here in 2004, which presents the eventful history of the Allgäu castles and everyday life in the Middle Ages in a way that is suitable for children. The Castle Museum on the listed Burghalde takes its guests on a journey through time to the Middle Ages. In the detailed exhibition, the structural development of the Allgäu castles and the everyday life of the Allgäu nobility in the Middle Ages can be understood. Exhibits and accompanying texts make it clear that the castles not only had military functions, but were also important administrative centers and places of lively medieval activity. The various subject areas are vividly conveyed by models and archaeological finds as well as centuries-old everyday objects. Taking a seat at the long table of knights and touching the armour, chainmail and helmets of different eras are allowed, so that the Middle Ages appear tangible and alive in the best sense of the word, even for the little ones. In front of the museum there is a scented and medicinal herb garden, in which the station pharmacy offers guided tours from May to September. The elevated Burghalde also offers outstanding views of the city center of Kempten and the foothills of the Alps.
