Approaching the ruins from Fleschützen, it was quite unsatisfying. Access to the inner castle is blocked, and the surrounding walls are overgrown. It's impossible to get a clear view. The ruins are apparently neglected and have been left to their natural state. The sign also suggests this. A shame.

The Burghalde Kempten is a trapezoidal elevation almost 700 meters above sea level. It is located right in the old town of Kempten, west of the Iller. There was a castle on this site as early as the Middle Ages, but it was demolished in the 18th century. Only a square tower of the city wall, built around 1488, remained in the northwest of the complex. The Burghalde Association was founded in the second half of the 19th century, which took care of the ruins, secured them, laid paths, planted trees and in 1870 built a caretaker's house, which was expanded around 20 years later to include a neo-Gothic floor with corner turrets. In addition, the remains of a cistern were uncovered and a garden of aromatic and medicinal herbs was created. In 1950, an open-air stage was finally built in the south of the site. The Allgäu Castle Museum is now located in the keeper's house, which was renovated in 2001 and provides a vivid presentation of the history and development of the region's castles. It is open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is €2.00, reduced €1.00. Beautiful castle ruins 🤗 Also open for visits on weekends from May

From May onwards, the ruins can also be visited inside, but there are still beautiful views of the very well-maintained ruins

The trails are sometimes very adventurous, but in a very beautiful area. It is safer to bike in dry weather. Unfortunately, a lot of trees block the trail, so you have to lift the bike more than you can ride.

Possible start/finish point from Heinrichweg. First a great knight's path and then the castle ruins. When the flag is hoisted, you can visit the ruins. A great experience for small and large knights.
