Please note that this bike/MTB highlight is off the official cycle path network. In the national park, cycling is only permitted on the paths that have been approved for this purpose, in order to protect the sensitive habitats of animals and plants and to avoid conflicts between user groups. Therefore I ask you to explore this highlight only on foot. Currently, according to the 1992 regulation and the 2012 amendment, cycling is only allowed on the following roads: 1. Hirschbichlstraße (state road 2099) and from the Bindalm bus stop to the alpine huts on the Bindalm; 2. Eiskar forest road to the fork in the path to the Schartennalm; 3. Eckau-Forststraße to Eckau-Alm with turnoff to the Schwarzederer-Wendeplatte; 4. Schappachstraße and Hammerstielstraße to Kühroint - turning point in front of the Archenkanzel - and forest road to Herrenroint; 5. Gotzenstraße and Hochbahnweg to Gotzenalm and access to the Stahlhaus; 6. Ligeretstrasse. The supplement to approved cycle paths from 2012 is in the Official Journal for the district of Berchtesgadener Land No. 20 from 05/15/2012 on page 127ff. The Königssee drains off at this weir

The Königssee is over 7km long, over 1km wide and a maximum depth of 190m.

There is much less tourism here than on the other side and it is much quieter 😊

End of the Königssee - beginning of the Königsseer Ache, this is where the water level of the lake or the Königsseer Ache is controlled. The concrete channel on the river bank of the Königsseer Ache was built in 1940 when the Seeklause was rebuilt (at the end of Königssee)! Until 1970, timber and construction timber was washed up in it to the storage area at Grafenlehen!

The world-famous pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomew on Lake Königssee The small Hirschau peninsula on the western shore of Lake Königssee is only accessible on foot via a challenging alpine hike lasting several hours. From Schönau, the approximately 8 km journey is accessible by boat year-round. The ensemble of church and former hunting lodge, which stands in front of the imposing east face of the Watzmann, is one of the most popular motifs for photographers from all over the world. The church is striking due to its red domed roof, and the different shapes of the two towers are also remarkable! St. Bartholomew is the destination of the Alm pilgrimage every year on the first Saturday after St. Bartholomew's Day on August 24th. The high mountain pilgrimage from Maria Alm in Austria across the Steinernes Meer is considered the oldest high mountain pilgrimage in the world. From the pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomä on Lake Königssee, a beautiful and popular hiking trail leads to the so-called Ice Chapel at the foot of the Watzmann's east face. The lowest year-round snowfield in the German Alps is fed by snow masses from the Watzmann, which cascade down into the valley in spring and into summer, forming a dome of ice and snow over the outflow of the Eisbach stream! https://www.berchtesgaden.de/bartholomae
