The view with the clear water and the beautiful plays of light created by the sun is simply fantastic. You can walk right along the shore here and enjoy nature beautifully.

The small Hirschau peninsula on the western bank of Lake Königssee can only be reached on foot via a challenging alpine mountain tour lasting several hours. From Schönau, the approx. 8 km journey by boat is possible all year round. The ensemble of church and former hunting lodge, which stands in front of the imposing Watzmann east wall, is one of the most popular motifs for photographers from all over the world. The church is very striking due to its red domed roof, and the different shape of the two towers is also remarkable! St. Bartholomä is the destination of the Almer pilgrimage every year on the first Saturday after Bartolomew's Day on August 24th. The high mountain pilgrimage from Maria Alm in Austria across the Steinerne Meer is considered the oldest high mountain pilgrimage in the world. A beautiful and popular hiking trail leads from the pilgrimage church of Sankt Bartholomä on Königssee to the so-called ice chapel at the foot of the Watzmann east face. The lowest year-round snowfield in the German Alps is fed by snow masses from the Watzmann, which fall into the valley in spring and into summer, forming a dome of ice and snow over the outflow of the Eisbach!

The shimmer of the water, especially when the sun is shining, is simply beautiful ☺️👌🌞🫶. For a short tour, I recommend the round around St. Bartholomä. There is also a piece on the shore of the lake 🙃

The view of the front can be seen on every postcard. However, the view of the back of St. Bartholomä can be enjoyed on a very short walk.

Nice, shady riverside path. There is a small circular route that takes about 30-40 minutes. There are always benches on the shore itself. You can also dangle your feet in the water here or go swimming.
