The Königssee lies like a fjord between steeply rising gray rock faces. The almost 2,000 meter high walls are so steep that they plunge seamlessly into the water of the lake. Since there is no path along the shore, the fastest and most promising way for you is across the lake with one of the excursion boats. In order to protect the water quality and nature, all boats used are operated exclusively with electric motors or physical power.

Unfortunately, the Königsee is not what it used to be 30 years ago. Bergeinsamkeit, peace and quiet you look here at weekends, or in the season in vain. The path from the parking lot to the lake is like the pedestrian zone of a big city. True crowds of tourists are drawn to the lake and St. Bartholomew.
If you want to cross the lake by boat, you must be in line for more than an hour. After a walk of several hours this is certainly no pleasure.
The whole does the beautiful landscape and mountain or lake scenery, of course, no demolition! So, if possible visit the lake outside of the season, unless you like the hustle and bustle.

Fantastically beautiful lake and away from the hustle and bustle at the boat dock you can also experience wonderful quiet moments in a great landscape. A very beautiful circular path leads to the well-known Malerwinkel, which can also be walked in winter.

For a short trip, I recommend the Malerwinkel- Rundweg. From the jetty, turn left past the boathouses and follow the signs. Passing a magnificent vantage point on the lake, the little tour ends after about 4 km at the valley station of the Jenner-Bahn.

The Königssee in the midst of the mountains is a perfect end to our hiking tour from Wimbachklamm to Königssee. The rental fee of the paddle boats amounts to 8 € per hour for 2 persons. Hours are up to 17 clock with the allocation of boats ends at 16 clock.

If you are already at Königssee you should also go to the Malerwinkel Rundweg. The view that one receives at this gate from Malerwinkel (Malerwinkl) over the Königssee is rightly world famous. This view is surpassed by the view from the Rabenwand lookout point. The short circular walk should have been completed despite the many visitors once, just because of the two beautiful viewpoints.
Simple hiking equipment, for the Rundweg enough solid shoes. Only for the climb to the lookout Rabenwand hiking boots are not a disadvantage.
Suitable as children and family hike.

The Königssee Shipping Company's electric boat glides silently across the fjord-like lake. Emerald green water sparkles in the sun, the sky glows white and blue, while the trumpet echoes impressively. Surrounded by the unique Alps of Berchtesgaden National Park and the mighty backdrop of the Watzmann East Face, a boat trip across Lake Königssee is an unforgettable experience in both summer and winter.

The uniqueness of Lake Königssee is that it can only be visited by boat. The steep cliffs plunge right down to the shore, meaning there are no roads, footpaths, or bike paths around the lake.

There's much to see and experience: The boat reaches the first stop, St. Bartholomä, after about 40 minutes. Here, it's worth visiting the world-famous baroque pilgrimage church, enjoying a cozy stop at the historic restaurant, and freshly smoked fish is available right next door at the Königssee fisherman's shop. An easy, varied circular hiking trail leads from here through the forest and over the Eisbach stream in about 45 minutes.

Depending on the season, a hike from the St. Bartholomä bus stop to the so-called Ice Chapel, the permanent ice field at the foot of the Watzmann East Face, is recommended.

The walk to the Ice Chapel takes about 2.5 hours there and back.
