The Sharp Tower, built from 1396 onward, is located directly on the Rhine and comprises a total of four floors, including the tower platform. It is the most striking part of the city wall. It once served as a watchtower and toll tower, and later served as a prison (1629-1648). In 1645/46, ten "witches and warlocks" were beheaded by the executioner after a painful imprisonment.

The steep hiking trail winds its way up to Maus Castle via several switchbacks. And from there, it climbs a good bit further. The effort is rewarded by absolutely breathtaking viewpoints.

We were there at the end of April, and the many different shades of green were somewhat reminiscent of Galicia. Please note that there are hardly any trash cans along the way, so please take your trash with you. There is a wine shop below the castle.

The way up is easy to walk

On the wide castle driveway you can quickly get up to the Maus

The path winds up the mountain, first in wide and then in narrow serpentines. It is pleasant to walk as it is not that steep.
