In 2018, the Bavarian State Survey Office determined that Bavaria's lowest mountain is located in the Kahl district. This was publicized by Bavarian Television in the series "Home of Records." Anyone wishing to hike to or visit the Birkenkopf will indeed have a very difficult time... just finding it. The hill lies at exactly 120 meters above sea level, in the middle of a private forest belonging to Emmerichshofen. Assuming the average elevation of the municipality of Kahl is 110 meters above sea level, the "ascent" to the Birkenkopf is actually a mere 10 meters. (Excerpt from kahl-main.de) Currently (December 2025), there are no signposts to the summit. A summit cross was erected in 2023.

The name of the mountain ⛰️ is: "Birkenkopf" and not "Bunkerkopf" !!!!

As is common on many other mountains, there is a cross on the summit, great.

It is quite common to find a cross on a mountaintop.

For some, however, it is one of the most beautiful peaks.

Steinknückl Mountain in the Spessart in Bavaria The Steinknückl, also known as the Steinknückel, is a 417-metre-high hill in the Spessart.[1] The wooded mountain is located in the Bavarian district of Aschaffenburg, directly on hiking trail 31 of the Spessart Association. It is located in the Weilerwald forest, about 1.7 km south of Laufach and about 2 km north of Waldaschaff. The Steinknückl is known for its strikingly tall holm oaks on the summit, which give it its name. Since there is a summit book on the top of the mountain, it is a popular destination for hikers and mountain bikers.

At the northernmost point of Bavaria, in Lower Franconia 😜, Bavaria's smallest mountain has been officially opened up 😳 in the district of Kahl am Main. At the foot of the Spessart hills, in a somewhat secluded location, a summit cross was erected after the first ascent by Mayor Jürgen Seitz, castle owner Ulrike Waitz, and District Administrator Dr. Alexander Legler. From now on, everyone can climb the summit ⛰️ and sign the summit register 👍🏼. Somewhat hidden, you'll need a compass 🧭, a GPS device, or simply Komoot to reach it 😄, ☝🏼 but it's worth it – endless vistas await you on the border with Hesse 😂.
