Elsfleth is a very nice day trip destination. A wonderful maritime atmosphere here.

Elsfleth is a small, nice town on the Hunte. Fish is sold at the harbor on Sundays. If you want to go to the other side of the Hunte, you have to use the drawbridge about 1km further north. But this only happens on the hour.

Beautiful place with a great view of the Hunte, there are many benches to relax on.

An impressive experience when you cycle through the gate into the courtyard.

The Vareler Schleuse (Wilhelm-Kammann-Schleuse) is a sluice lock and can only be opened when there is a tie between the outside and inland water. General lockages take place from April to October between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. if there is also high water at this time. Registration points (on the lock and in the clubhouse of the WSV-Varel “Bistro am Deich”) have been set up for the registration of all ships not based in Varel. Lock times (lock opening usually approx. 30 - 45 minutes) are: at high tide (running water) between approx. 2 1/2 hours and 1 hour before high tide at low tide (running water): ) between approx. 1 hour and 1 3/4 hours after high tide. The times given refer to the course of a mean tide. The information from the tidal calendar of the BSH for Wilhelmshaven, Alter Vorhafen, applies as reference times - without converting the mean tidal differences to the Vareler lock.

Very inviting place to take a rest. There is plenty of seating and there is also a toilet. The food looks fresh and delicious. A rest is worthwhile.
