The true peak of Birks Fell is marked by a simple cairn.

Don't stop at the Trig Point! The true peak of Birks Fell is a small cairn a further 2km north. Follow the dry stone wall past Birks Tarn and the old shepherds hut, and you will eventually reach the cairn.

Fountains Fell at 668 metres is a UK designated Nuttall, sitting in between its two neighbours, Darnbrook Fell at 624 metres, and Fountains Fell South Top at 662 metres. The summit of Fountains Fell is marked by a large stone cairn. There are nice views over towards Pen y Ghent, and the surrounding dales.

Didn't see a thing today, it was such a miserable day. This is a great hike from Buckden though. You could also do Buckden Pike the same day, making for a 17km total hike.

A superb Yorkshire wildness apart from the odd grouse hide, the pathways can disappear and turn into sheep tracks so definitely use a map or Komoot 🫡

Be sure to go to the true summit which is a small cairn of rocks and not the concrete trig pillar
