Both decent options between Skiddaw South Top and Skiddaw, south west heading towards Carl Side, require sure footedness and appear rather treacherous as you head off the top down the scree.

A really simple one to tick off. But if you are going to accent via Carl Side, the climb up Carl is steap.

Distinct from Skiddaw this is another small summit in the bag, topped with a sculpture made from scavenged iron and steel pieces.

Skiddaw is frequently dismissed as dull and featureless. In the right conditions however, its (comparitively) smooth contours appear to soften the harsh, bleak summit plateau. The boundary between land and sky starts to become less distinct and it takes on an eerie stillness.

Ling Fell and Sale Fell are the most northerly of the Wainwright Fells in the north western group. Overlooking Embleton and Wythop Mill and with commanding views of Bassenthwaite, the Skiddaw fells and further afield to Criffel in Galloway, both hills make good viewpoints despite their diminutive size. Sale Fell is the more easterly and slightly lower of the pair but being closer to Bassenthwaite Lake it has better views of that and to Dodd and the Long Side ridge of Skiddaw. Sale Fell is easily climbed from just above Wythop Mill where there is adequate parking.

Standing 930m above sea level, Skiddaw is well worth the hike. There is a reasonable amount of ascent but nothing technical. The fell can be climbed from Keswick (15km) or from the car park.

The summit of Grisedale Pike has stunning views - it's definitely worth the climb up! There are some remnants of the former industry as well.

Grisedale Pike is a rocky summit at 791m. It stands at the top of a long ridge up Sleet How from Braithwaite on the Coledale Horseshoe. Amazing views from the summit down the valley and across to Skiddaw.

Well worth the detour to get up here and it's a Wainwright to boot and with an elevation of 865m it is a worthy top in its own right and in my opinion has finer views than its bigger sibling.

Well a Wainwrights, Hewitt, Nuttall, Marilyn and a 600m prominent peak to boot. My first time here and I must say an outing to do all of the Skiddaw group summits in a day is a superb outing.

I loved the view from here. Skiddaw on one side and Bassenthwaite Lake on the other. A beautiful narrowish ridge containing three Wainwrights. Great stuff!

Epic views over Derwent water and Keswick. Probably a nice view than on the summit of skiddaw!

Long Side is a superb Wainwright fell, the central summit of the excellent Longside Edge. This narrowish ridge is undoubtedly the best way up or down Skiddaw, giving excitement regardless of whether you're hiking or running. I find the temptation to run it even when I'm hiking too much to ignore. The views are also excellent. Skiddaw's regal, slatey dome rises beyond the silent valley of Southerndale, while Bassenthwaite Lake glistens to the west.

The view is fantastic, it's really windy up here for a break.
